Back-to-school Information

Greetings STMS Families,

We are getting close to school starting again and hopefully students and families are getting prepared and excited for the start of school on September 3rd, just like our staff here at Summit Trail Middle School. It’s always a little bittersweet to say goodbye to the best parts of summer, but that is balanced with anticipation for a new school year and opportunities that will occur for each child and family.

Here is a list of upcoming important Summit Trail Middle School year start dates and information:

- Grizzly (Taking Care of Business) Days: August 20th & 22nd 8:30-2:00 – It’s an opportunity for kids to take school pictures and tour the school. For parents, you can purchase a PE uniform, sign up for ASB (kids) and PTA (parents), buy spirit wear, and other back to school business. Stop by any time on either day.

If you would like to avoid the long lines of paying for fees, most of that can be done online through the Summit Trail website under “Quick Links” and click on online payments. https://wa-tahoma.intouchreceipting.com/

If you have an incoming 7th or 8th grader who wants to play sports, make sure to get a physical for your child with your doctor and complete the necessary forms. Forms are found on the school website under “Activities”, then click on the appropriate grade level.

In order to receive athletic clearance we need the following:

1. FamilyID Registration completed
2. ASB Card purchased
3. Physical on file
4. $50 participation fee paid (ONLY for non-cut sports. For cut sports the fee will be assessed once athlete is placed on roster)
5. No fine. All fees/fines can be paid online https://wa-tahoma.intouchreceipting.com/

- Sixth Grade Orientation: Friday, August 30th from 8a-12p led by our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Leaders. Families will need to drop off their sixth grader between 7:45a-8a in the gym. The event is students only. It will be a series of fun activities designed to meet new friends and learn about our school and campus. Pick up at 12p will be in the same location (hint: make a plan with your student about where to pick them up).

- Next Year Student Schedules: Friday, August 30th Noon-3p – Paper copies will be available at the school or online (Skyward). All students are welcome to pick up those schedules and walk the campus from 12-3pm.

- First Day of School: Tuesday, September 3rd 8:00a-2:30p – All students will start each school day in the gymnasium, so that is the official drop off point for carpools/family transportation through the front parking lot. Please feel free to use all three lanes to drop off students to reduce congestion on SE Summit-Landsburg RD. Busses only drop off on the back side of the school. Students will see all classes on the first day of school.

Please help your child learn and remember their bus route number (which may be different then the physical bus number, as busses can change, but the route stays the same). Route numbers may have changed from previous years. Families can find out their bus transportation information via ELink here.

Early in the school year, afternoon routes take a little longer to leave the school and busses may arrive at destinations later than usual.

Also, we are partnering with our PTA to host an optional and informal coffee chat for casual conversation and a Q&A with our Principal, Mr. Cassidy, from 7:45a--8:15a outside the gym.

We will have packets of information coming home on the first day of school. Save time that night to review all of the included details and return any necessary ones back to school.

- Open House: Tuesday, September 10th 6:30-8:30pm – We will start with a large group presentation in the gym for introductions, then release families to follow their student’s schedules in short increments of time to hear from each of their teachers. This will also be an opportunity for PTA to ask for the financial support from families to support their cause to “Bridge the Gap” and serve those unique needs for our students that cannot be covered by our normal budget or ASB funds (our ASB fundraiser will be in October – Run/Rock/Read). Additional information will come later.

-Supply List: Please, see the attached STMS supply list. (In our photos section!!!)

Thank you for your attention to all of these details. We are excited to kick-off the 2019-20 school year at Summit Trail Middle School...Go Grizzlies!
